Care instructions

Leashes & Collars

We ourselves have two real bastards who take every puddle and every bad mud hole with them.

Thank God Tau is super easy to care for.
Just throw the leash or collar in the sink, rinse off the worst of the dirt and then scrub off the rope with a small hand brush and a little of your normal hand soap. Hang up, wait 1-2 hours, done!ツ

We don't put any of our collars and leashes in the washing machine - just for the sake of our washing machine, I don't think it would be so happy with the carabiners thrown around. Even the leather rigging wouldn't be sooo happy with a long wash cycle.

Fat leather leashes & collars

Oiled leather products are "naturally" very easy to care for.

Basically, it is sufficient if you rub the leash or collar with a damp cloth and hang it open.

Attention! Leather products must never be placed on the heater - always dry at room temperature!

If necessary, you can refresh your greased leather products with greased leather oil (no leather grease - this would make them slippery and also no vegetable oil - the fatty acids contained in it would damage the leather). But you will notice that this is not really necessary and that your oiled leather leashes and collars will just become nicer and even softer over time.

Please bear in mind that the color of the oiled leather darkens considerably when treated with leather oil and - depending on the color - can also give off color pigments.

Rope thicknesses

Measuring instructions

To determine the correct collar size, please measure the circumference of your dog's neck DIRECTLY !

Please NEVERNEVER use an existing collar as a template!

Not the length of another collar, not the circumference, not anything else! Due to different thicknesses, materials and closures of collars, there are differences in the measurements!

Because then it won't fit. Really!

And that would be really stupid...

NECK CIRCUMFERENCE

You measure the circumference directly on your dog's neck, exactly where the collar will later sit - a little higher towards the ears rather than exactly in the middle of the neck.

Use a flexible measuring tape and leave a little space so that you can slide about one finger between your neck and the collar. Make sure you don't measure too tightly, but also not too loosely.

Please do not use an existing collar as a size guide and do not measure the length of an existing collar (length and circumference are not the same). Due to different thicknesses, materials and fasteners of collars, differences in the measurements can occur!

HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE

For no-pull collars like ours, which are made to measure for your dog, the head circumference is also very important. The collar should be able to be pulled over the head easily, but should not be so large or too large that it falls over the head by itself when the dog is playing or with its head down. Therefore, it should be "just OK" to be able to be taken off again and for this to happen, it must be measured precisely:

If the head circumference is larger than the neck circumference, theoretically it is sufficient to state the head circumference - but please still give us both so that we can adjust the collar correctly for you.

The best way to measure this is to take a flexible tape measure, measure the ears included, and then clip the loop together with a clothespin. Then - and this is the most important part - push it over the head and back onto the neck and then back again. This is important because the way back is often narrower when you pull it off and can add up to 1-2 cm. This is due to the ear flaps and cartilage - with a few exceptions - such as the Vizsla where the ear is completely soft.
